Since the 15th century, Popotla Barrio has been one of the oldest neighborhoods in Mexico City, where the infamous Spaniard conqueror Hernan Cortez cried after being defeated by the Aztec army back in 1520. The site is a Mexicos historic landmark known as "El Árbol de la Noche Triste/The Tree of the Sad Night" and most recently renamed as
